Custom Quiz & Assessment Platform

A custom interactive quiz and assessment platform built from a detailed client brief. I translated the client's questions, scoring logic, and result requirements into a complete experience—from the front-end Q&A flow to automated scoring, backend response management, and personalized email results.

Overview

The client came with a clearly defined assessment framework, including the questions, answer options, scoring methodology, and requirements for how results should be calculated and communicated.

The job was to turn that framework into a working digital assessment that could guide users through the questions, process their responses, calculate their results accurately, and automatically deliver their personalized results.

Rather than using a standard quiz plugin or off-the-shelf form, the assessment was implemented as a custom solution so the experience and underlying logic could be tailored to the client's specific requirements.

The Challenge

The assessment needed to do more than collect answers.

Every response had to be recorded and mapped to the appropriate scoring criteria. Once the assessment was completed, the system needed to process those responses, calculate the appropriate results, and communicate them back to the user without manual intervention.

The key requirements were:

  • A clear, intuitive question-and-answer experience
  • Reliable tracking of every response
  • Backend visibility into completed assessments and answers
  • Custom scoring and result calculations
  • Accurate mapping of answers to their corresponding results
  • Automated delivery of personalized results by email
  • Inclusion of the relevant solutions and explanations in the final email

The Build

Front-End Assessment

We built the user-facing assessment experience around a straightforward Q&A flow, allowing participants to move through the questions without being overwhelmed by the underlying scoring system.

The interface was designed to keep the focus on one task at a time: reading the question, selecting an answer, and progressing through the assessment.

Backend & Scoring Logic

The backend handles the core logic of the assessment.

Each submitted answer is captured and associated with the relevant question and scoring criteria. Once the user completes the quiz, the system processes the complete set of responses and applies the client's scoring methodology to calculate the final results. The client also has an option of exporting CSV reports and analytics.

This meant translating the client's assessment rules into deterministic logic so that the same answers consistently produce the correct results.

Results & Automated Emails

After calculation, the system generates the user's results and automatically sends them by email.

The email includes the calculated outcome along with the relevant answers, solutions, and supporting information, giving users something they can refer back to after completing the assessment.

What Was Delivered

  • Custom front-end Q&A experience
  • Question and answer management
  • Backend response tracking
  • Custom scoring and calculation logic
  • Automated result generation
  • Personalized result emails
  • Solution and explanation delivery
  • End-to-end testing of answer/result combinations
  • Custom implementation based on the client's assessment framework

The Result

The finished system turned the client's assessment framework into a fully functional digital experience that can be completed, scored, and delivered without manual processing.

The important part of the project wasn't simply presenting questions on a webpage—it was ensuring that the entire chain from answer → calculation → result → email was accurate and automated.

This gave the client a repeatable assessment tool that could handle user submissions while maintaining the scoring methodology they had defined.

Final Thoughts

This project was a good example of where development goes beyond making something look or feel right—it has to be logically correct. The client already knew what they wanted the assessment to measure and how the results needed to work. Our job was to translate those requirements into reliable software, making sure the front-end experience, backend data, scoring calculations, and automated communications all worked together. The result is a custom assessment system that removes manual calculation from the process and gives every participant a consistent, personalized result.
